Biography
Dr. Charles H. Bonner was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in 1947, the year that Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) became a board specialty. Dr. Bonner's father, Dr. Francis H. Bonner, Sr., applied his experiences in the 40th Field Hospital in World War II in playing a foundational role in this new discipline. Dr. Bonner attended medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, and completed his internship and residency in PM&R at the Ohio State University School of Medicine. He is board certified in PM&R and neuromuscular medicine.
Dr. Bonner originally came to Richmond in order to establish the rehabilitation unit of Sheltering Arms Hospital, where he served as medical director. He went on to create the rehabilitation wing of Johnston-Willis Hospital and his own private practice, the Physical Medicine Center. Dr. Bonner has served as president of the Virginia Society of PM&R and as a member of the Virginia Disability Commision. Dr. Bonner continues to reside in Richmond with his wife, Tina, and two children, where his over thirty years of medical experience remain a community asset.
Our patients have been pleased with the expanded level of care afforded by the arrival of Courtney Ash, FNP-BC. She holds a bachelor's degree in nutrition and exercise from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, magna cum laude , and an additional bachelor's degree in nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University, summa cum laude . Ms. Ash went on to complete her master's degree as a licensed family nurse practitioner at VCU, including practica in adult, pediatric, and womens medicine, as well as surgical trauma and chronic illness management.
The additional level of medical decision-making provided by Ms. Ash's diverse clinical experience has enabled a significant enhancement of our patient outcomes. She currently resides in Richmond with her husband Steve and chocolate Labrador, Tucker.
